Quick review: Facebook email

So I've been using Facebook email service since morning today (geekybodhi@facebook.com). It allows you to send attachments, take a picture or video if you have a webcam, and even text the message to a mobile. But all said and done, despite the hyperbolic headlines leading up to its release, it certainly isn't a Gmail killer.

For starters, you can't send CC (or BCC) of the messages, can't specify a subject, nor can you reply to messages in-line, which rules it out for most of the emailing I do.

In its current form, it's just an over-glorified extension of the old mail system. I don't see it of much use outside of Facebook. So while Facebook might have won the IM war, because it introduced setup-free IM to people who had never used it before, it'll need to do a lot more to stand upto gmail.
